This summer, we’re proud to take our commitment to the next level by partnering with One Tree Planted to help in the initiative of reforestation and mindful planting. We chose One Tree Planted after lengthy research because their concept is simple. One US dollar essentially helps plant one tree.
How Just One Dollar Can Help Save the Environment
One Tree Planted is an environmental non-profit with a focus on global reforestation. Founded in 2014, this organization aim to combat the negative effects of deforestation and focus on measurable projects that can boost the quality of life for the communities they are planting for.
One Tree Planted focuses on 6 pillars of Reforestation including: air, water, biodiversity, social impact, heath, and climate. From donations to trees in the ground, One Tree Planted is transparent on how they use the donation they receive towards good cause. With 80% of the funds going into Tree Planting and only 20% of the donation going into their operation overhead, they make sure that each dollar makes a difference for our environment.
So Why Exactly Do Trees Matter For Our Planet?
Not to scare you, but the Amazon Rainforest is cut down at an average of 3 football fields per minute. Forests are carbon sinks. 15% of greenhouse gas emissions come from deforestation, but 48 pounds of carbon dioxide can be sequestered by a mature tree within a year. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. They also provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.
80% of all land-based plant and animal species live in forest habitats. Habitat loss creates the threat of extinction. When plants and trees die, their nutrients return to the soil where other plants can absorb them and new plants can grow. Trees protect against wind and rain, the two most aggressive forces of soil erosion. Roots provide structure to hold soil and nutrients in place, while allowing water to pass more efficiently.
